“Verity” by Colleen Hoover is one of my first reads by the prolific romance author.
I’m glad I didn’t think this was her typical style of books, since I saw the twist coming a million miles away. (Hazard of being a paranormal and urban fantasy author for the past decade. HA!)
That being said, it was still a good book. There was plenty of suspense and mystery to keep me going and I enjoyed the interaction between Lowen and Jeremy.
So, to start off, this book puts us in the ordinary life of Lowen Ashleigh, who is a struggling writer and barely hanging on to her finances. She gets offered the job of a lifetime – taking over Verity Crawford’s books.
Verity, as we find out, was in a coma and no longer able to write, but she’s a bestselling author and the publisher wants her books to continue.
Lowen comes to the Crawford estate, believing she’s going to go through Verity’s office and notes, so she can continue the stories.
But creepy things start happening the moment she’s in the house. And part if it has to do with the growing attraction between Lowen and Verity’s husband, Jeremy.
Needless to say, strange things abound and the paranoia runs deep.
All in all, “Verity” was a good read and definitely got me interested in Colleen’s style of books. But I can say with certainty, there aren’t many that Colleen writes that are quite like this one. If you like mystery and suspense in your novels, this is a great one. But the rest of her books are more deep angst with the need to overcome something huge. Regardless, I still recommend this one, 100%.
