“The Friend Zone” by Abby Jimenez was a fun, quick read that I happened upon in my local Costco store.
All I can say is… SCORE!
It was a great read and one that I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun romcom with slight complications.
The main characters are Kristen and Josh and as the book starts out, you’d expect them to be anything but a love connection.
The two end up in a small fender bender at the beginning of the book, only to find out Josh is the best man in Kristen’s BFF’s wedding. Small world, right?
Kristen’s long-term boyfriend has been out of town on deployment and he’s about to move in at the start of this story.
However, her nerves about him moving in have Kristen a bit freaked out – as does her growing attraction to Josh, who ends up helping her as a part-time contractor for her dog business.
To add fuel to the fire, Kristen’s dog Stuntman Mike LOVES Josh, but hates her current boyfriend. And as a dog lover and dog business owner, this doesn’t set super well.
While the boyfriend isn’t bad, things have definitely fizzled with her relationship and she’s no longer as sure as she was about where things are heading.
Obviously, fireworks ensue between her and Josh and a decision has to be made. Does she continue on her current course? Or does she pursue her feelings for Josh?
Overall, this story was sweet, light-hearted (and even though there’s the boyfriend piece in the mix, he’s never portrayed like an asshole. Just a guy who doesn’t quite have his priorities totally straight when it comes to her.).
In conclusion, “The Friend Zone” is a perfect weekend read – something you can sink into and let the rest of the world fall away. Fun, playful, and totally cute.
