Onward to book 2 in the “Slammed” series by Colleen Hoover! “Point of Retreat” continues where “Slammed” left off.
Layken and Will are together, but after the death of Layken’s mother, the two of them are held by a promise that they’ll wait to dive into a physical relationship for a year.
This, the “point of retreat” symbolizes their stopping point before things get out of hand and they have sex.
However, as the one year anniversary approaches, the two of them are getting excited to finally take their relationship to this next level.
After a year of heartache and loss, they’ve found a routine and a way to lean on each other.
There’s a lot more sexual tension in this book, since the two of them are holding on by a thread to the promise they made.
Throughout this book, secrets are revealed, Layken’s mother makes a comeback in an interesting and sweet way, and of course, their relationship is yet again challenged to its breaking point.
We see the two of them grow into adults who are burdened with the responsibility of becoming “parents” far too young, as they raise and take care of their younger siblings.
However, they begin to question this aspect of their relationship. Are they only together because they can relate to each other on this level?
So, because of this, the relationship looks like it might fall apart before it truly begins.
In conclusion, “Point of Retreat” was a fantastic continuation and I liked the new perspective of certain elements that were brought into play, thanks to being inside Will’s head for this book.
It was a fantastic read! Give it a try!
